Our Mission & Values
The Silicon Valley News Bureau is nonprofit venture with deep roots in the Santa Clara and Sunnyvale communities. While the name is new, the product is not. The Silicon Valley News Bureau is composed of the Silicon Valley Voice website (SvVoice.com) and works in conjunction with the for-profit publication, The Weekly, which has served the Santa Clara community in various forms (Santa Clara Weekly, Santa Clara American, Santa Clara Standard) for more than a century.
What We Believe
The Silicon Valley News Bureau is rooted in the idea that money should not prohibit a person’s access to information. Our mission is to provide FREE local news that brings the community together and holds local government accountable.
Foundation of Local Democracy
Our team is composed of experienced journalists who investigate the actions of our city and county governments. In Nov. 2025, our article “Santa Clara’s Measure I: You Should Have Read the Fine Print” examined how Santa Clara city officials manipulated wording on the ballot to sway voters into supporting a $400 million bond measure. It’s a story that only appeared in The Voice.
The Voice also called out government inaction. Such as Santa Clara’s handling of the Nuevo Dog Park, where several dogs grew ill after visiting the park, at least one dog died. Four months later, Santa Clara still had not provided answers. When The Voice asked, there was little response. The Voice was THE ONLY news publication to follow up on the story after the initial report.
Giving Voice to the Community
Our connection to the community allows us to tell stories that otherwise would not be told, giving voice to the unheard. A recent article on the low-income housing development Agrihood outlined the horrific conditions residents are facing with little response from the owner.
Award-Winning Reporting
In December 2025, The Voice won second place at the San Francisco Press Awards for its continuing coverage of a Santa Clara city council member’s felony perjury trial. The Voice also won 10 California Journalism Association awards in 2024, including first place in “Editorial Content” and “Health Reporting.” (2025 awards are currently being judged.)
Top Partners
Silicon Valley isn’t just San Jose, and it cannot be represented by a single paper like the San Jose Mercury News. It’s a quilt of smaller communities, and it needs to be treated as such. The Silicon Valley Voice holds Santa Clara and Sunnyvale city leaders accountable for their decisions. It lauds the community members for their successes.
